Job Description
Wilmington Friends Meeting seeks a dedicated childcare provider to assist with the care of children during meeting for worship on Sundays. This position falls under care of the Ministry and Council Committee.
We are seeking a candidate that can provide a welcoming, fun, and safe environment for children attending our meeting.
Responsibilities, Pay, and Requirements
- Sundays 10:15 a.m. through approximately 12:30 p.m. when all children have been picked up by their parents. The end time varies as sometimes service and programming are completed by noon or it may be closer to 12:45 on the Sundays that we hold Monthly Meeting. The service begins at 10:30 a.m. and generally ends around 11:30 a.m. Arrive each Sunday at least 10 minutes before service to ensure the classroom is set up and ready and to greet parents/children that may be new to the Meeting to introduce yourself.
- Provide care and supervision for children third grade and younger. We typically have a small number of children that vary in age, applicants must be able to attend to differing age levels/needs.
- During the service, children remain with their parents until the Childrens’ Message and then they are released to the childcare provider to the downstairs classroom. In the event a child does not want to remain in the sanctuary, you may be asked to provide care in a nearby playroom until it is time for the remainder of the children to join.
- Plan a short story, game, or simple activity that coordinates with the theme of the service, scripture reading, and/or relates to Quaker beliefs and practices.
- Serve a small snack and drink (provided by the Meeting) if time allows.
- Must be able to appropriately communicate with children, parents/guardians, and meeting volunteers and staff.
- Assist children in using the restroom and locate parents if diaper changes are needed.
- Pay is $40.00 per Sunday.
- Must complete job application, submit to background check, and comply with any and policies of the Meeting.
